A MINIATURE INDO-PERSIAN PRIVACY SCREEN WITH SIX PORTRAITS - The screen is constructed of three hinged vertical panels in dark, densely carved hardwood, each surmounted by a scalloped arch crest with finials and supported on turned feet. Each panel is fitted with two oval painted miniatures, six in total, depicting princely male and female court figures in jeweled dress, shown in bust-length portrait against pale blue or gray grounds. The figures wear richly detailed turbans, veils, necklaces, and earrings, executed in opaque watercolor with fine brushwork and stippled white highlights in the traditional Indian miniature manner. The surrounding frames are deeply carved with floral and foliate motifs throughout, forming an elaborate architectural setting. The reverse panels are plain, retaining original construction, hinges, and a period inventory label marked ”C.C.I. Emp.”. The folding screen reflects the late colonial taste for Indo-Persian court imagery adapted for decorative export objects while preserving strong local craftsmanship and iconography.
