A PAIR OF SIGNED E. BERNADOTTE (20TH CENTURY) ETCHINGS - A pair of etchings by E. Bernadotte, each signed E. Bernadotte Dpf. in pencil to the lower margin. Both works capture moody, atmospheric scenes in strong chiaroscuro. The first etching depicts two men in heavy coats and hats, walking side by side in a shadowed urban setting, editioned 5/20. The tightly worked cross-hatching emphasizes the somber, almost Expressionist mood, typical of early 20th-century European printmaking. The second etching shows a night street view with an automobile and illuminated gateway, flanked by industrial buildings and smokestacks, evoking themes of modernity and industry. Both works are framed under glass in period wooden frames, the smaller with a simple black molding, the larger with a slightly distressed, gilt-accented frame. Condition: Both prints remain in good overall condition with expected toning to paper consistent with age. The larger example shows minor foxing and slight mat burn along edges, while the smaller print has light surface soiling and scattered handling marks. Frames exhibit wear, chips, and abrasions, especially to corners and edges, consistent with age and display. Neither work has been examined out of frame.
