This atmospheric scene depicts a woman at a riverbank washing dishes, with a moored sailboat and shoreline buildings in the background. Executed in a loose, Impressionist-influenced hand, the painting features vivid brushwork, reflective water surfaces, and textured impasto in the landscape foliage and shoreline—hallmarks of Cone’s style. The work is housed in a giltwood frame. Signed lower left ”CONE”. Footnote: Ralph N. Cone was born in Ireland and later emigrated to the northeastern United States, where he became known for evocative landscape and genre compositions, particularly harbor scenes rendered with richly textured impasto and expressive color.
