A LEONA, AMERICAN, ORRINGER OIL PAINTING, 'SPRINGTIME' - A LEONA ORRINGER (AMERICAN, 20TH CENTURY) OIL ON CANVAS, ”SPRINGTIME”. Oil on canvas, signed lower right. The composition depicts three children in a wooded park-like setting, under fresh green foliage suggestive of early spring. One child in a red dress approaches along a path, while two others converse near a small stream and wooden footbridge, with trees in bloom around them. Label: retains original Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh, PA exhibition label on the verso, inscribed with title ”Springtime”, artist name, and former address. Artist Biography: Leona Orringer (American, 20th century) was a Pittsburgh-based painter active during the early to mid-20th century. She exhibited regionally and was associated with the Carnegie Institute (now Carnegie Museum of Art), where her works, including Springtime, were shown in juried exhibitions. Orringer’s paintings often reflected genre scenes and landscapes, rendered with a sensitivity to light and atmosphere. Though little is documented about her career, her inclusion in Carnegie Institute exhibitions reflects a measure of recognition within the Pittsburgh art community. Surface with fine craquelure consistent with age. Scattered abrasions and areas of thin paint, particularly in the foliage and ground. Minor rubbing and grime on the varnish layer. Frame with wear and rubbing to edges, commensurate with age. Exhibition label to verso with tears and losses but legible. Overall, presents well.
