A KPM PORCELAIN MATCHING CUP AND SAUCER, 19TH CENTURY - Fine hard-paste porcelain cup and saucer manufactured by the Königliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Berlin (KPM), late 19th century. The cylindrical cup raised on three molded gilt paw feet, fitted with a scrolled, fully gilded handle terminating in acanthus detail. The body divided into framed panels decorated in polychrome and gilt. One principal panel depicting a cathedral in monochrome gilt silhouette beneath a pink ribbon inscribed ”31. Januar.” Adjacent panels painted with stylized oak branches and flowing foliage on a pale yellow ground, heightened with gilt dots. Borders in emerald green with grapevine ornament in raised gilt. Matching saucer with concentric bands of green and yellow ornament, geometric star motif formed in dotted gilt across the well. Undersides of both pieces bearing the underglaze blue scepter mark and red orb KPM cipher. The saucer further inscribed in red script ”Von zweihundert Stücken No 194,” indicating number 194 from an edition of two hundred examples. Impressed and painted numerals 125/408 and letter B visible. The decoration reflects the late historicist and neo-classical aesthetic favored by KPM in the second half of the 19th century, combining architectural commemoration with restrained botanical ornamentation and refined gilding. Limited edition inscription suggests commemorative production, possibly marking a specific historical or civic date referenced by the ”31. Januar” panel. Berlin, late 19th century.
