A LIMOGES PORCELAIN COBALT-BLUE AND GILT LIDDED CASSEROLE, LATE 19TH–EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Of circular pedestal form with twin scroll handles and domed cover topped by a gilt finial, finely hand-painted with floral sprays in vivid polychrome enamels on a white ground, framed by deep cobalt blue borders with allover parcel-gilt scrollwork, lattice, and stylized shell motifs. The interior, left undecorated, likely bears Limoges factory and decorator marks on the underside (not shown here). French Limoges porcelain, particularly with cobalt and gilt decoration, was highly sought after in both the domestic and export markets between 1880–1920. This casserole form with domed cover and pedestal foot is characteristic of the luxury porcelain services produced by Limoges ateliers for upper-class dining and display.
