Bidspirit auction | A LIMOGES PORCELAIN PUNCH BOWL,
A LIMOGES PORCELAIN PUNCH BOWL, D&C FRANCE, EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Of large circular form on a raised foot, the exterior is finely hand-painted with abundant grape clusters in tones of green, purple, red, and violet amidst foliage against a soft green and cream ground. The interior rim has an Art Nouveau band of interlaced ribbon and stylized violet blossoms. The underside is marked D&C France (Durand & Cie, Limoges), inscribed 1909, and bearing an artist’s signature. Note: The D&C France mark denotes Durand & Cie, one of the important Limoges porcelain decorators active in the early 20th century. This example illustrates the transitional style between late 19th-century naturalism and the emerging Art Nouveau taste, combining lush grape motifs with linear, stylized floral borders.
