A CARVED POLISHED HORN CHINESE BRUSH POT, CHINESE SCHOOL, 19TH CENTURY - Carved and polished horn brush pot of slightly tapering cylindrical form, the exterior deeply worked in low relief with a continuous landscape scene depicting figures in scholarly and domestic pursuits amid bamboo, rockwork, and flowering trees, with distant pavilions and stylized mountains forming the background, the carving emphasizing natural horn striations to enhance depth and tonal contrast, characteristic of Qing dynasty scholar’s objects intended for the literati desk. The interior is hollowed and smoothly finished, the oval rim following the natural contours of the horn, the base retaining organic texture consistent with horn material, the overall surface finished to a warm translucent reddish-brown patina with darker inclusions and natural markings visible throughout.
