Bidspirit auction | A FRENCH BRONZE, ARAB WITH

A FRENCH BRONZE, ARAB WITH A FALCON, P. J. MENE (1810-1879), 19TH CENTURY - An orientalist French bronze of an Arab man with a falcon on his hand, a freshly hunted rabbit laying at his feet, his ears pierced with golden earrings. The bronze was created by the French sculptor Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810-1879), one of the pioneers of the animalier movement popularized in the 19th century. Here we seem him blend his animalier sensibilities with the orientalist fascination in vogue at the time. The piece is signed by him on the base as 'P. J. Mene'. Paris, France, 19th century.
