A PAIR OF ETIENNE-HENRI DUMAIGE (FRENCH 1830-1888) BRONZE FIGURES, 'AVANT LE COMBAT ET APRÈS LE COMBAT', 19TH CEN. - A pair of finely cast French bronzes entitled 'Avant le Combat Volontaire 1792' and 'Apres le Combat Grenadier de 1792' by the master sculptor Etienne-Henri Dumaige (1830-1888). Each depicts a French soldier from the beginning of the French Revolutionary Wars, the first man holding a drum and the second lighting a pipe. Dumaige was born in 1830 and studied under the masters Jean-Jacques Feuchère and Augustin-Alexandre Dumont from a young age. By his early 30s he had made enough of a name for himself to begin exhibiting his sculptures at the Paris Salon, which he did from 1862-1877. He passed at the relatively young age of 58 in St-Gilles-Croix-de-Vié in the year 1888. France, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
