AN UNUSUAL CAST-BRONZE CYLINDER, CLASSICAL MOTIFS, 19TH CEN. - A cylinder of cast-bronze decorated across its surface with relief-work figural scenes showing neo-classical imagery, perhaps a bacchanalian party beneath the trees which can be seen at the upper rim of the piece. The top and bottom of the cylinder are both open, possibly meaning that this piece was meant to be attached to a post or some other separate element. Continental Europe, 19th century.
