A MOORISH STYLE JEWELED OPENWORK METAL HANGING LAMP, LATE 19TH CENTURY - The lantern of bulbous form with a tapering neck, finely executed in pierced metal openwork composed of intricate radiating geometric and spiderweb-like motifs characteristic of Moorish design. The surface richly ornamented with applied oval reserves of molded red glass and further set with numerous red glass cabochons within foliate mounts, creating a jeweled effect. The interplay of pierced metal and colored glass designed to produce a dramatic diffusion of light when illuminated. The upper section fitted with a suspension loop and later adapted for electricity, also retaining its original hanging function. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
