Bidspirit auction | A PAIR OF CHINESE GLAZED

A PAIR OF CHINESE GLAZED PORCELAIN VASES, CA. 1900 - Each modeled as a kneeling figure supporting a large flaring vase, the figures rendered in brightly colored glazes and dressed in flowing robes, one in deep cobalt blue and yellow, the other in auburn and ochre tones, both with expressive facial features and naturalistic poses. The vases of trumpet form in a rich sang-de-boeuf style red glaze with molded decoration, the interiors glazed in pale celadon. The figures are seated on naturalistic bases with scrolling wave motifs, the composition combining figural sculpture and functional vessel in a manner characteristic of Chinese export porcelain of the late Qing period. The surfaces with high gloss glazes and vibrant coloration are typical of turn-of-the-century decorative wares produced for the Western market. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
