A PAIR OF ORMOLU AND MARBLE CASSOLETTES AFTER THOMIRE, 19TH CENTURY - A pair of French gilt-bronze and gray marble cassolette brule-parfums (incense burners), each comprising a grey marble body supported and surrounded by three legs decorated with acanthus leaves which transform into seated women playing ancient greek 'aulos' pipes. The lid of each marble body is raised upon a small stand of pierced bronze, allowing the incense to rise out. The plinth is of orange marble, and supports three seated griffons supporting the legs of the piece. These pieces appear to have been created after the work of Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751-1843), the famed French sculptor and bronzier. France, 19th century. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
