Bidspirit auction | A PAIR OF TURKISH SILVER

A PAIR OF TURKISH SILVER PLATES WITH COINS AND TUGHRA MARKS - A matched pair of Ottoman silver dishes of shallow circular form with gently rising sides, each centered with a mounted silver coin bearing a tughra and Arabic inscriptions. The coins are set within the base of each dish, encircled by a narrow applied border, and appear to be Ottoman issues featuring the imperial cipher of a sultan, likely early 20th century. The interiors are otherwise plain and polished, emphasizing the central coin elements, while the rims are decorated with a repeating stamped border of stylized leaf or petal motifs. The undersides are struck with the mark ”800” indicating continental silver standard, together with additional control marks. The combination of coin mounts and tughra decoration reflects late Ottoman decorative taste, where imperial imagery was incorporated into functional tableware and presentation pieces. The dishes likely served as presentation or ceremonial objects rather than purely utilitarian wares. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C.
