A LARGE CARVED ALABASTER COCKATOO WITH GLASS EYES, CA. 1900 - Carved in the round from a single block of translucent white and gray-veined alabaster, the sculpture depicting a cockatoo perched on a naturalistic tree stump base, the bird shown with raised crest, folded wings, and naturalistically modeled plumage, the eyes set with red glass cabochons, the stone selected to incorporate natural veining to enhance the definition of the wings and tail feathers, the base carved as a stump with an openwork section beneath the tail, the underside fitted with a shaped felt pad.
