A RUSSIAN PRIVATE FACTORY PORCELAIN FIGURE OF A PEASANT, 19TH C. - Private manufacturer, Russia, late 19th – early 20th century. Modeled as a seated bearded peasant wearing a red shirt and green trousers, bent forward while washing or wringing a cloth, the figure rests upon an oval base painted in deep cobalt blue. The figure is carefully hand-painted in bright glazes, with nuanced attention to the face and hands. The verso is glazed turquoise and bears an incised inventory or model number ”1279”.
