A CONTINENTAL EMBOSSED METAL CASKET WITH TEXTILE LINING, 19TH CENTURY - Rectangular casket with a domed lid, crafted in embossed white metal (likely pewter or white-metal alloy), raised on small bun feet. The exterior is richly decorated in Renaissance Revival taste, featuring elaborate scrollwork with foliate motifs and fantastical creatures such as griffins, against a textured ground. The lid and sides are uniformly ornamented with symmetrical scrolls and arabesques. The interior is lined with a red damask textile, presenting a floral and foliate pattern, consistent with 19th-century decorative tastes.
