A RUSSIAN SILVER TEAGLASS HOLDER WITH BASKETWEAVE PATTERN, IVAN KHLEBNIKOV, 1889 - A cylindrical tea glass holder with a rounded handle. The design on the handle and body imitates a birch-bark woven basket, a favorite motif of Russian jewelers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. On the base are the hallmark of the assayer ”I.K. 1889,” ”84,” and the master’s hallmark in Cyrillic ”ХЛЪБНИКОВЪ” [Ivan Petrovich Khlebnikov], along with a separate hallmark of the supplier to the Imperial Court (double-headed eagle). St. Petersburg, Russia, 1889. ”I.P. Khlebnikov” was a jewelry company founded in 1871 in Moscow, which gained fame for crafting jewelry from gold, silver, and precious stones.
