A RUSSIAN SILVER PODSTAKANNIK IN THE NEO-RUSSIAN STYLE, UNKNOWN WORKSHOP, LATE 19TH – EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A cylindrical podstakannik (tea glass holder) with a rectangular handle, decorated with an applied cast silver ornamental cartouche in the Neo-Russian style. Within the cartouche is an engraved monogram with initials. Along the lower rim is an engraved date, likely commemorating its presentation: 19 2/IV 17. The upper and lower rims are adorned with a geometric guilloché border. On the base is an engraved Cyrillic presentation inscription: ”In memory of the family // of our father // and mother // from the sisters and brothers // 19 24/III 17”. On the body of the podstakannik and on the base are the maker’s mark in Cyrillic ”A.I.”, as well as two assay marks ”84” and a kokoshnik head. Russia, late 19th to early 20th century.
