A RUSSIAN ART-NOUVEAU SILVER TEAGLASS HOLDER, PLATINUM FACTORY, EARLY 20TH CEN. - A cylindrical tea glass holder with a smooth body that widens slightly toward the bottom and a tall, profiled ring-shaped base. The top features a fancifully carved wavy rim. The body is engraved with a floral pattern. The handle is decorated with a relief design of stems and leaves, featuring a rosette at the upper base. There are hallmarks on the upper rim and on the inner rim of the base: the assay mark “84 with a head in a kokoshnik facing right with a delta sign” in an oval shield, and the factory marks in Cyrillic, MPZ and MOSK.PLAT.ZAV., in a rectangular shield. The Moscow Platinum Plant, which began operations in 1918, produced a wide variety of items for industrial needs and a small number of silver jewelry pieces. (See Postnikova-Loseva, 2675).
