A RUSSIAN SILVER SHOT CUP IN THE ART NOUVEAU STYLE, BY ROMAN ARISTARKHOV, MOSCOW, LATE 19TH CENTURY - Of slightly tapering conical form, the body engraved with an asymmetrical floral composition in the Art Nouveau style. Within the design are engraved initials ”R.M.”. The fluid ornament reflects the transition to naturalistic decorative forms characteristic of the period. Hallmarks: 84 silver standard with kokoshnik facing left and assay master’s initials, and maker’s mark ”РА” in Cyrillic in an oval cartouche, Moscow. Roman Aristarkhov, owner of a silver workshop, active 1880–1896, Moscow, primarily producing silver tableware. See Postnikova-Loseva, 2848–2849. Weight: 0.9 oz., (26 g.)
