A RUSSIAN GARDNER PORCELAIN FIFTEEN-PIECE TEA SERVICE, MOSCOW (VERBILKI), LATE 19TH CENTURY - A finely assembled porcelain tea service comprising a teapot and cover, a cream jug and cover, a sugar, and twelve teacups with matching saucers. Each piece of gently lobed form, decorated in delicate polychrome enamels with Japonisme-inspired landscapes, birds in flight, and flowering plants, is heightened with gilt borders and stylized blue foliate motifs. The rims with raised gilded scrollwork bands, the handles elegantly shaped and highlighted in gold. Each piece bears a red overglaze factory mark with the Imperial double-headed eagle above an oval cartouche reading in Cyrillic ”Фабрика Гарднера в Москве” (Gardner Factory in Moscow), along with pattern or form numbers. This type of mark is characteristic of production circa 1880–1890, shortly before and around the period of the factory’s acquisition by M. S. Kuznetsov. Dimensions: Teapot height: 5 1/8 in., (13.0 cm.) Conditions: Overall good antique condition. Minor wear to gilding, particularly at rims and handles. Light surface wear consistent with age and use.
