A CONSTANTIN HOLZER-DEFANTI (1881-1951), ”KOREANISCHER TANZ” (KOREAN DANCE), ROSENTHAL PORCELAIN FIGURE, CIRCA 1920, MODEL K 566 - A Rosenthal porcelain figure titled Koreanischer Tanz (”Korean Dance”), designed by Constantin Holzer-Defanti and produced at the Rosenthal factory in Selb, Bavaria, circa 1920. Executed in vibrant polychrome enamels and enriched with extensive gilding, the figure displays the exoticizing and theatrical aesthetic characteristic of European Art Deco and late Jugendstil interpretations of East Asian subjects during the early twentieth century. The underside bears the green Rosenthal Selb-Bavaria factory mark, incised model number K 566, and the impressed and painted designer's signature. Holzer-Defanti was among Rosenthal's most accomplished sculptors, known for his elegant dancers, theatrical figures, and Orientalist subjects produced during the firm's artistic peak in the 1910s and 1920s.
