A LARGE GERMAN PORCELAIN FIGURE OF VENUS IN A SHELL CHARIOT, LATE 19TH - EARLY 20TH CENTURY - Depicting the goddess Venus seated nude upon a large shell-form chariot draped with a flowing veil. The composition is enriched with marine motifs including fish, shells, and rocky waves, while the figure displays finely modeled features with delicately painted facial details and pastel coloration. The hollow head likely served as a vase or spill holder, a form popular among Continental porcelain manufactories during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The underside bears a blue crossed swords mark in imitation of Meissen. Dimensions: H: 20 in., (51 cm.) Conditions: Multiple restorations and overpainting visible throughout.
