A RUSSIAN SILVER ENGRAVED TRAY IN THE PAN-SLAVIC STYLE, 1879 - Of shaped oval form with twin openwork handles and a molded border, the surface is finely engraved in the Pan-Slavic taste with geometric ornament and stylized interlace motifs surrounding a central reserve depicting an Orthodox church or monastery complex. Additional decorative devices in the form of abstracted cross motifs and strapwork panels enrich the field, reflecting the revivalist aesthetic associated with late nineteenth century Russian decorative arts. The border is further decorated with engraved bands of repeating geometric ornament characteristic of Neo-Russian and Pan-Slavic design. Hallmarks: maker’s mark ”A.K” in Cyrillic, dated 1879, 84 Russian silver standard, St. George assay mark for Moscow, and workmaster’s mark ”33”. Weight: 19.7 oz., 558 g.
