A PORCELAIN CUP AND SAUCER WITH RICH GILT DECORATION, PROBABLY RUSSIAN PRIVATE MANUFACTURE, 19TH CENTURY - The porcelain cup of rounded baluster form with a flared gilt-lined rim and applied gilt handle terminating in a molded floral thumb rest, finely decorated in burnished and matte gold with continuous leafy garland bands and radiating gilt stripes to the lower body. The interior of the cup is almost fully gilt. The matching saucer is similarly decorated with concentric gilt bands and a broad encircling leaf garland, executed in high-quality gilding consistent with Russian private or provincial manufactories operating outside the Imperial Porcelain Factory system in the first half to mid-19th century. The decoration reflects Empire and late Neoclassical taste, with restrained symmetry and classical vegetal ornament. The absence of factory marks is typical for privately produced Russian porcelain of this period, often made for the domestic market or specific patrons.
