A GILT-DECORATED EUROPEAN PORCELAIN TEACUP AND SAUCER, PROBABLY CENTRAL EUROPE, MID-19TH CENTURY - Comprising a porcelain teacup and matching saucer, decorated with a dense ground of burnished gilding finely reserved with repeating white floral motifs arranged in a continuous frieze. The cup of flared cylindrical form with a gently everted rim and scroll handle, the exterior fully gilt except for narrow white bands at the lip and foot. The interior richly gilded. The saucer similarly decorated, with a wide gilt well enclosing a central white reserve and concentric gilt rings. The decoration appears to be executed in the ”cut-to-white” technique, with the floral pattern carefully etched or reserved through the gold ground, a method associated with mid-19th-century Continental porcelain production. Unmarked, consistent with decorative wares produced for export or secondary markets. Dimensions: H: 3 1/2 in., (8.9 cm.) D: 6 in., (15 cm.) Conditions: General wear consistent with age and use.
