A JAPANESE BRONZE KORO AND COVER WITH KARAKO FINIAL, MEIJI PERIOD, LATE 19TH CENTURY - The tripod incense burner of compressed globular form, cast with opposing carp-form handles and supported on three tapering legs issuing from dragon mask mounts. The body is finely decorated with engraved and relief ornament incorporating auspicious motifs and geometric borders. The domed cover is surmounted by a dynamic karako figure in mid-motion. Finished in a rich dark brown patina with reddish undertones and mounted on an integral circular stand. Dimensions: H: 29 in., (73.7 cm.) Conditions: Surface wear and minor oxidation consistent with age. Small crack to the raised arm of the karako finial. Otherwise sound. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
