A JAPANESE BRONZE JARDINIERE WITH ONI SUPPORT, MEIJI PERIOD - Japanese bronze jardiniere or ikebana vessel, Meiji period, late 19th century. Cast as a woven basket overflowing with grape clusters and vine leaves, supported by a seated oni figure with a horned head and a dragon-scaled lower body. Finished in a rich brown patina and bearing a cast Japanese workshop seal to the base. Dimensions: H: 16 1/4 in., (41.3 cm.) Conditions: Surface wear, oxidation, and minor rubbing consistent with age. Scattered verdigris and accretions present. Workshop seal visible but partially obscured by oxidation.
