Bidspirit auction | A HAMMERED COPPER TWO-HANDLED VASE

A HAMMERED COPPER TWO-HANDLED VASE BY COPPERCRAFT GUILD, ITALY, MID-20TH CENTURY - A substantial hand-hammered copper vase of baluster form with a broad shoulder, waisted neck, and flared rim. The vessel is fitted with a pair of forged loop handles displaying a pronounced hammered texture that complements the hand-worked surface of the body. The underside bears the impressed maker's mark ”Coppercraft Italy, Ponte Valleceppi” and the model number ”507.” The Coppercraft workshop of Ponte Valleceppi, near Perugia, Italy, produced a range of hand-crafted copper and brass decorative objects during the mid-20th century. Their designs drew inspiration from traditional Mediterranean forms while emphasizing hand-hammered surfaces and honest materials, making them popular decorative arts exports during the postwar period. Dimensions: H: 20 in., (51 cm.) Conditions: Overall good condition with age-related wear. Surface oxidation, scattered scratches, and variations in patina consistent with use and age.
