A REGENCY STYLE SATINWOOD SARCOPHAGUS FORM TEA CADDY, 19TH CENTURY - Of sarcophagus form with a raised and molded lid, veneered throughout in richly figured satinwood with contrasting ebonized stringing. The caddy raised on cast lion paw feet and fitted at the sides with gilt brass lion mask ring handles. The hinged cover opens to a fitted interior lined in red velvet, retaining twin lidded tea compartments flanking a central cut-glass mixing bowl. The classical sarcophagus form and Egyptian Revival-inspired details reflect the continued popularity of Regency decorative models throughout the nineteenth century. Dimensions: H: 6 3/4 x L: 14 x 6 1/2 in., (17.2 x 35.5 x 16.5 cm.) Conditions: Overall good antique condition with light scratches consistent with use.
