A FRENCH ART NOUVEAU JEWELED METAL REPOUSSE BOX WITH KNIGHT MOTIF IN THE STYLE OF ALFRED DEGUET - Rectangular casket of riveted sheet metal construction, richly ornamented with repoussé and engraved decoration in the Art Nouveau taste. The hinged cover is centered by a stylized armored knight or heraldic figure rendered in an abstracted medieval manner, surrounded by geometric and foliolate motifs highlighted with colored enamel and inset cabochon glass jewels. The front, back, and sides are adorned with circular medallions incorporating triskelion-like designs accented with red glass cabochons and green enamel. The interior retains its original lined compartment. The design reflects the medieval revival and Symbolist influences popular in French decorative arts at the turn of the twentieth century and bears strong stylistic similarities to works associated with Alfred Daguet and the Parisian Art Nouveau metalwork tradition.
