Bidspirit auction | AN IMPORTANT AUSTRIAN ART NOUVEAU
AN IMPORTANT AUSTRIAN ART NOUVEAU BRONZE, COPPER, AND GLASS BEADED TABLE LAMP, CIRCA 1900–1915 - An exceptional Austrian Art Nouveau table lamp executed in patinated bronze and copper, centered by a monumental vase-form standard rising from an organic openwork base adorned with cast grape clusters, berries, and stylized foliage. The elongated body displays a rich iridescent brown and green patina evocative of natural oxidized metal surfaces favored by Viennese Secession designers. Above, an elaborate architectural superstructure supports three suspended lantern-form lights and a central illuminated canopy, each draped with cascading strands of faceted glass beads creating a shimmering curtain effect. The pierced domed crown is embellished with scrolling stems, leaves, and bud finials, reflecting the organic vocabulary of the Art Nouveau movement. The lamp's highly sculptural composition, combining vegetal motifs, architectural geometry, and luxurious glass bead ornamentation, is characteristic of the finest Austrian decorative arts produced during the early twentieth century. The design exhibits affinities with works associated with the Vienna Secession and leading Austrian metalwork workshops active during the period. Dimensions: H: 31 1/2 x D: 17 1/8 in., (80 x 43.5 cm.) Conditions: Overall good condition consistent with age and use. Surface wear, oxidation, and rubbing to the patinated bronze and copper elements. Minor losses and replacements to some glass bead strands may be present. Fully functional.
