PAIR OF CONTINENTAL BRONZE FIGURES OF RENAISSANCE FENCERS, LATE 19TH CENTURY - A finely cast and patinated pair of bronze figures depicting opposing Renaissance gentlemen engaged in a fencing duel, each shown in dynamic contrapposto stance and mounted on integral circular bases. The figures are dressed in richly detailed period attire, including doublets, slashed breeches, capes, and soft caps, rendered with careful attention to texture and movement. One figure is modeled shielding his gaze with his left hand while advancing with a rapier held behind, suggesting a moment of feint or anticipation. The opposing figure leans forward defensively, cloak drawn partially across the body, his rapier angled downward in readiness. The surfaces retain a deep brown patina with subtle highlights emphasizing the modeling of musculature and drapery. The figures are mounted on stepped oval bases, with the undersides showing typical casting marks and fastening points. Unmarked, but stylistically consistent with French or Austrian bronze production of the late 19th century, possibly influenced by sculptors working in the manner of Alexandre Falguière or similar academic traditions.
