A PAIR OF BRONZE FIGURES OF A HARLEQUIN AND LADY, HENRI ALFRED MARIE JACQUEMART, FRENCH, LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY - A finely cast pair of patinated bronze figures depicting an elegant masked harlequin and a fashionable young lady in period dress. The male figure is shown adjusting a strap attached to a stringed instrument slung across his back, while the female companion gracefully raises a fan and gathers her flowing skirt. Both stand atop naturalistically modeled plank-form bases and exhibit the lively movement, theatrical charm, and refined surface detail characteristic of French Belle Époque sculpture. The costumes are rendered with exceptional attention to texture, including patterned fabrics, lace cuffs, ribbons, and carefully modeled facial features. Each base bears an incised facsimile signature ”H. Dubois, ” referencing the celebrated French sculptor Henri Alfred Marie Jacquemart, known professionally as Henri Dubois (1859–1943). These decorative bronze figures were produced in the spirit of late nineteenth-century French genre sculpture and reflect the enduring popularity of commedia dell'arte and Rococo revival subjects.
