AN AUSTRIAN ORIENTALIST MOVEMENT BRONZE TABLE LAMP BY FRANZ KLAN - A cold-painted bronze figural table lamp depicting a young water bearer standing beneath a stylized palm tree. The palm tree rises to form the lamp standard, its spreading fronds serving as the shade support. The base is signed ”F. Berg” and bears characteristics associated with the celebrated Vienna Bronze workshops of Franz Bergman. Executed in the Orientalist taste, the composition reflects the fascination with North African and Middle Eastern subjects that was prevalent in Austrian decorative arts during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Retains its later electrical fittings. Dimensions: 16 x 7 x 5 in., (40.7 x 17.7 x 12.7 cm.) Conditions: Overall good condition with age-related wear. Surface patina and oxidation throughout.
