A KÁLMÁN BESZÉDES (1832-1893) HUNGARIAN PEASANT BOY SCULPTURE - A bronze figure by Hungarian artist Kálmán Beszédes (1832-1893) depicting a young Hungarian peasant boy in traditional clothing, his hat in his hand and his head bent down as if in prayer or mourning. The piece is signed on the base by the artist and is kept on a stone plinth. Kálmán Beszédes was born in the town of Dunaföldvár in Hungary around the year 1832. He spent his early years studying in Pest, Vienna, and throughout Italy, before moving back to Hungary and beginning his career. He spent his waning years in Constantinople where he taught the theory of firefighting at the Turkish Military Academy. Hungary, 19th century. Dimensions: H: 15 1/4 in., (38.7 cm.)
