A CONTINENTAL EUROPE WALKING CANE, 19TH CENTURY - The crook handle cast in white metal, likely silver or silver plate, of elegant curved form terminating in a stylized beak-shaped tip. The surface richly molded with flowing linear bands, stylized foliate motifs, and scroll ornament suggestive of late 19th century Continental decorative taste, anticipating Art Nouveau movement. The handle mounted to a slender, ebonized wooden shaft terminating in a simple ferrule. The fluid ornament and sculptural modeling of the grip reflect Central or Western European manufacture, possibly Austrian, German, or French, circa 1880–1900. The absence of visible hallmarks suggests either silver plate or worn marks beneath the mounting collar. Dimensions: L: 35 3/4 in., (91 cm.)
