The work emphasizes simplified geometric shaping of the facial planes, with heightened chromatic accents at the cheeks and eyelids. The inward-looking gaze and elongated facial structure recall Jawlensky’s well-known series of meditative heads, executed during his stay in Switzerland and later in Wiesbaden.
