AN OIL ON CANVAS PAINTING, SIGNED ”M. V. NESTEROV” - Oil on canvas depicting a young woman standing on a wooded path, absorbed in reading a book. The composition is rendered in a subdued palette of earthy browns, greens, and warm ochres, with the figure illuminated against a tunnel-like avenue of trees. The contemplative subject matter, poetic mood, and spiritualized treatment of nature recall works associated with the circle of Russian Symbolist painter Mikhail Vasilyevich Nesterov. The painting bears a signature reading ”М. Нестеров” in the lower right. However, the signature alone cannot be accepted as proof of authorship.
