AN EARLY LIMOGES ENAMEL TRIPTYCH DEPICTING SCENES FROM THE PASSION OF CHRIST, FRANCE, 18TH CENTURY - Painted enamel on copper mounted within gilt metal folding frames. The triptych is composed of three panels depicting episodes from the Passion of Christ. The left panel portrays the Betrayal of Christ by Judas in the Garden of Gethsemane. The central panel depicts the Crowning with Thorns, while the right panel represents Christ presented before the people before the Crucifixion. Executed in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, green, purple, and flesh tones with extensive gilded highlights, the compositions draw inspiration from late Gothic manuscript illumination and medieval stained glass traditions. The central panel bears a painted monogram ”DD” at the lower left. The reverse retains its original protective backing. Dimensions: Open: 8 11/16 x 15 5/8 in., (22 x 39.7 cm.) Conditions: Visible age-related wear, including scattered enamel losses, chips, scratches, and abrasions, with rubbing and oxidation to the metal frame and hinges. Hinged structure appears intact.
