AN ORDER OF SAINT ANNE, BREAST STAR WITH SWORDS, RUSSIAN EMPIRE - A Russian Imperial Order of Saint Anne breast star with crossed swords, awarded for military merit by Eduard, St. Petersburg. The eight-pointed star in silver with faceted rays, centered with a circular enamel medallion bearing the motto ”AMANTIBUS JUSTITIAM PIETATEM FIDEM” (To those who love Justice, Piety, and Fidelity), surrounding the red enameled cipher of Saint Anne. The star is surmounted by crossed gilt swords, indicating a military award. The reverse with a vertical pin and catch. The pin marked in Cyrillic ”ЭДУАРД” (Eduard) refers to the well-known St. Petersburg court jeweler Eduard, the official supplier of Russian Imperial orders in the late 19th and early 20th century. An additional maker’s stamp is present on the reverse of the central plate. Silver, gilt silver, and enamel. Late 19th – early 20th century. Dimensions: 3 5/8 x 3 5/8 in., (9.2 x 9.2 cm.)
