AN IG FARBEN / MEISTER LUCIUS & BRÜNING 75TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATIVE PLAQUE, 1938 - A German white bisque porcelain commemorative plaque issued in 1938 to mark the 75th anniversary of the founding of Farbwerke vorm. Meister Lucius & Brüning, the predecessor company of the Hoechst chemical works and a constituent of IG Farben. The circular plaque is executed in relief and depicts allegorical male and female figures representing industry and science, accompanied by the dates ”1863–1938” and the inscriptions ”Werk Höchst” and ”IG Farbenindustrie A.G.” The reverse bears the impressed emblem of Meister Lucius & Brüning (M.L.B.) with a recumbent lion. The plaque is housed in its original presentation case and accompanied by the original printed dedication sheet. The text records its presentation to an employee (”Gefolgschaftsmitglied”) on the occasion of the company's seventy-fifth anniversary, commemorating the scientific and industrial achievements of the Hoechst works. Such presentation plaques were distributed to employees during anniversary celebrations held under the auspices of IG Farben shortly before the Second World War. Dimensions: D: 6 in., (15.2 cm.) Conditions: The plaque displays minor surface soiling and handling wear consistent with age. The presentation case exhibits moderate wear, discoloration, and minor losses.
