Bidspirit auction | AN ERNST UDET COMMEMORATIVE ZEISS
AN ERNST UDET COMMEMORATIVE ZEISS AEROTOPOGRAPH PEN, GIVEN MARCH 10 1938 - Hexagonal gilt-metal mechanical pencil belonging to Luftwaffe Colonel-General and Pilot Ernst Udet (1896-1941), engraved ”ZEISS-AEROTOPOGRAPH” and inscribed ”Zur Erinnerung 10.3.38” (”In remembrance of 10 March 1938”), retaining its original pocket clip and black-and-white push-button finial. The pencil is of finely machined construction with engine-turned decoration throughout. Produced as a commemorative presentation piece for personnel associated with the Zeiss Aerotopograph division, a leading manufacturer of aerial survey and photogrammetric equipment. The inscription records the date of 10 March 1938, immediately preceding the political events surrounding the Anschluss of Austria, suggesting the pencil was distributed as a souvenir or presentation item marking a significant contemporary event. Dimensions: L: 4 3/4 in., (12 cm.) Conditions: Good overall condition with moderate wear, scattered surface scratches, and minor oxidation consistent with age and use. Engraved inscriptions remain clear and legible. Please make all inquiries before bidding. All lots are sold ”as-is”, refer to our T&C. Helios Auctions offers in-house shipping.
