A WWII GERMAN KRIEGSMARINE GROUPING WITH SOLDBUCH AND DECORATIONS - A World War II German Kriegsmarine serviceman's grouping comprising a wartime Soldbuch (pay and service book) with photograph, an Iron Cross Second Class 1939, a War Merit Cross Second Class with Swords, a Kriegsmarine Long Service Medal for Four Years, and a Kriegsmarine High Seas Fleet Badge (Hochseeflotte-Kriegsabzeichen). The badge is marked with the maker's code ”1” on the reverse pin, identifying manufacture by Deschler & Sohn, Munich. The Soldbuch is named to a sailor born in 1910 and contains period entries, unit assignments, promotions, official stamps, and service notations. The attached portrait photograph depicts the serviceman in a Kriegsmarine uniform. The Four-Year Long Service Medal was awarded for faithful naval service, while the Iron Cross Second Class and War Merit Cross with Swords indicate wartime service and recognized merit. The High Seas Fleet Badge was instituted in 1941 and awarded to personnel serving aboard major Kriegsmarine surface combatants participating in operational sorties. Dimensions: Book: 5 3/4 x 4 1/4 in., (14.6 x 10.8 cm.) Conditions: The Soldbuch exhibits heavy wear, creasing, losses to the cover, and age-related toning consistent with field use.
