A GERMAN WWII NARVIK CAMPAIGN SHIELD, 1940 - A German WWII Narvik Campaign Shield, 1940, mounted on dark field-gray wool backing with tan paper reverse. The stamped metal shield is surmounted by the German eagle and swastika above the inscription ”NARVIK.” The lower field is dated ”1940” and decorated with a fouled anchor, crossed mountain troops' edelweiss and propeller motif, representing the naval, mountain, and air force units engaged in the Narvik campaign in Norway. The shield retains its original textile backing and paper covering to the reverse. Dimensions: 4 x 2 1/8 in., (10.2 x 5.4 cm.) Conditions: Overall good period condition.
