A GERMAN WWII KUBAN CAMPAIGN SHIELD, 1943 - A German WWII Kuban Campaign Shield, 1943, mounted on black wool backing with paper-covered reverse. The stamped bronze-toned metal shield is surmounted by the German eagle and swastika above the dates ”1943” and the inscription ”KUBAN.” The upper field depicts a stylized map of the Kuban bridgehead with the place names ”KRYMSKAJA, ” ”LAGUNEN, ” and ”NOWOROSSIJSK, ” commemorating the German defense of the Kuban bridgehead in the Caucasus during 1943.
