A GERMAN NARVIK CAMPAIGN SHIELD, 1940, THIRD REICH PERIOD - Constructed of die-struck silvered metal in the form of a heraldic shield surmounted by a national eagle clutching a swastika wreath. The shield bears the inscription ”NARVIK” above the date ”1940” and displays crossed anchor and propeller motifs beneath an edelweiss flower, symbolizing the combined participation of naval, air, and mountain troops during the Norwegian campaign. Retaining its original dark-green wool backing and paper reverse. Unmarked, as commonly encountered. Dimensions: 4 1/4 x 2 1/8 in., (10.8 x 5.4 cm.)
