A GERMAN KRIEGSMARINE NARVIK CAMPAIGN SHIELD, 1940, THIRD REICH PERIOD - Constructed of die-struck gilt metal in the form of a heraldic shield surmounted by a national eagle clutching a swastika wreath. The shield bears the inscription ”NARVIK” and the date ”1940,” above military emblems consisting of a crossed propeller and anchor beneath an edelweiss flower, symbolizing the combined operations of naval, air, and mountain forces during the Norwegian campaign. Mounted on its original dark navy-blue wool backing with remnants of the original blue paper covering to the reverse. Dimensions: 4 1/4 x 2 1/8 in., (10.8 x 5.4 cm.) Conditions: The gilt finish remains well preserved with moderate wear and oxidation. The dark-blue wool backing is intact. Please make all inquiries before bidding.
